PROVEN PERFECT-BINDING TECHNOLOGY IN A NEW GENERATION: C.P. BOURG BB3002 AT AGENTURA NP

Our installations: PROVEN PERFECT-BINDING TECHNOLOGY IN A NEW GENERATION C.P. BOURG BB3002 AT AGENTURA NP

When a technology has proved its value in everyday production over many years, modernisation does not necessarily mean choosing a completely different path. Sometimes the best solution is to build on existing experience and invest in a new generation of equipment that the customer already knows and trusts.

This is the approach taken by Agentura NP. The company had been using a C.P. Bourg BB3002 perfect binder for the production of perfect-bound publications for many years. As it was satisfied with the machine’s reliability and the quality of the finished binding, Agentura NP decided to continue with technology from the same manufacturer when modernising its production. We therefore installed a C.P. Bourg BB3002 in its latest version at the company’s production facility.

Print production under one roof

Agentura NP has been active in the printing and graphic arts industry since 1992. At its production facility in Staré Město, the company provides both digital and offset printing and offers customers a complete service – from graphic design and prepress preparation through printing to final finishing.

Its product portfolio includes simple printed materials such as business cards, letterheads, leaflets and invitations, as well as more demanding products including catalogues, magazines, company newspapers, annual reports and bound books. The company also offers various binding methods, including saddle stitching, perfect binding and case binding, together with folding, die-cutting, coating and other finishing operations.

The ability to complete all stages of production under one roof helps the company manage deadlines, quality and overall job costs more effectively. Reliable finishing technology therefore plays an important role in its day-to-day operation.

Why Agentura NP remained with C.P. Bourg

Agentura NP had been using its previous C.P. Bourg BB3002 for the production of perfect-bound publications over an extended period. The machine proved reliable in everyday production, making it a natural choice to build on this experience when planning the company’s next technological upgrade.

Selecting the current version of the same model ensures continuity with a proven production solution while providing more convenient operation, more efficient job preparation and a higher level of automation.

The operators can also continue working with technology whose basic principles they already understand. This makes the transition to the new equipment easier and allows the company to benefit quickly from the capabilities offered by the updated perfect binder.

C.P. Bourg BB3002: a flexible perfect-binding solution

The C.P. Bourg BB3002 is a professional single-clamp perfect binder designed for the production of high-quality books, catalogues, brochures and other adhesive-bound publications. It can operate as a standalone machine or be incorporated into a more extensive production line.

Depending on the selected configuration, it can be used off-line, connected to a book block loader or integrated into a production line with a printer or sheet feeder. This allows the system to be adapted to the company’s particular production method and future development.

The intuitive colour graphical user interface simplifies operation and allows individual job settings to be stored. When a job is repeated, the operator does not have to set up the entire machine manually again. Automatic book block thickness detection helps the system adjust the subsequent binding processes, including cover preparation.

From spine preparation to accurate cover application

Correct spine preparation is essential for achieving a strong and durable perfect binding. The BB3002 uses a powerful milling system whose depth can be adjusted according to the thickness of the book block. The prepared surface allows the adhesive to penetrate between the individual sheets more effectively and contributes to the strength of the finished binding.

After the adhesive has been applied, the cover is accurately positioned and pressed onto the book block. A powerful nipping unit ensures correct cover registration and creates a flat and consistent spine.

The cover feeder is positioned for convenient access and allows covers to be replenished while the machine is running. Double-sheet and missing-sheet detection helps prevent production errors.

Clean creasing without damaging the cover

One of the machine’s significant advantages is its knife-based cover creasing system. Compared with conventional wheel scoring, knife creasing creates a cleaner and more accurate fold line while reducing the risk of cracking the printed surface or damaging lamination.

Depending on its configuration, the BB3002 can produce up to 13 positive or negative creases. This is particularly useful not only for standard book covers but also for publications with flaps or more complex cover designs.

The machine can process book blocks in a wide range of formats and thicknesses. The manufacturer specifies a finished book thickness range from 1 to 60 mm. Its broad media range makes it suitable for thin brochures and catalogues as well as more extensive books.

Automation also supports short production runs

Today’s print production increasingly involves shorter runs, frequent job changes and a wide variety of formats. It is precisely in this environment that automatic setup and stored production parameters deliver substantial benefits.

The BB3002 is designed to reduce the time required to prepare a new job and minimise the number of manual operator interventions. An optional barcode scanning system can also be added to verify book block sequence and job integrity.

Depending on the selected configuration, the system can be supplemented with additional modules for sheet preparation, trimming, creasing, folding, perforating or stacking finished products. The technology can therefore grow alongside the changing requirements of the printing company.

Modernisation based on positive experience

The installation of the new C.P. Bourg BB3002 at Agentura NP does not represent a change in the company’s established production direction. Instead, it continues a solution that has proved successful in practice while adding the capabilities of the current generation of technology.

The new machine provides the foundation for more convenient operation, faster job preparation, consistently repeatable production and the further development of books, catalogues and other perfect-bound publications.

We are delighted to have supported Agentura NP with this modernisation and to build on the company’s many years of experience with C.P. Bourg technology. This installation is another example of how carefully selected equipment does not have to change a proven production principle – it can take it significantly further.
